About Us

Personal Choice Independent Living/Choix personnel vie autonome originated in 1974 thanks to the vision of a committed social worker working at one of the local hospitals. Concerned with the lack of housing alternatives for young adults with physical life challenges, she brought together a group of community leaders from different walks of life to create a group home based on the principles of independent living and social integration. With support from the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services and from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, they created a not-for-profit corporation called CORD, the Carleton-Ottawa Residence for Disabled. In December 1975, the Pullen Avenue Group Home opened its doors.

Today, Personal Choice Independent Living has three locations in Ottawa offering supports for daily living to (up to 26) adults.
